Popularized in the middle of the 20th century, now one of the best-known holiday songs of all time, Blue Christmas was written by Billy Hayes and Jay Johnson. The melancholic song was performed by various artists, including The Platters, Johnny Cash, The Beach Boys, Celine Dion, Ringo Starr, Bruce Springsteen, Michael Bublé and Rod Stewart. Elvis Presley’s Blue Christmas is a rock’n roll version released in 1957. In 2008, American country music singer Martina McBride inserted her voice onto this recording to create a duet version.

‘I’ll have a Blue Christmas without you

I’ll be so blue just thinking about you

Decorations of red on a green Christmas tree

Won’t be the same dear, if you’re not here with me

And when those blue snowflakes start falling

That’s when those blue memories start calling

You’ll be doin’ all right, with your Christmas of white

But I’ll have a blue, blue blue blue Christmas

You’ll be doin’ all right, with your Christmas of white,

But I’ll have a blue, blue, blue blue Christmas’
